Elementary Music Program

Desert Christian Schools

Music is an important part of our curriculum as a Christian School. Music is a gift from God and the proper use of music can bring glory to God and enjoyment to mankind.

Every grade level at Desert Christian Elementary receives one period of classroom music per week and one period of choir with a music instructor. Opportunities to expand a child's musical horizon are offered to children as follows:

  • Elementary Beginning Band* is offered during the school day to youth fifth grade students, with minimal or no experience, who wish to learn to play a band instrument.  The instruments offered are flute, clarinet, oboe, saxaphone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone, tuba and percussion.
  • Intermediate Band* is offered two times a week during school to those who have one year of previous instrumental experience.
  • Beginning String Class* (Violin, Viola, Cello) is offered during the day twice a week to 2nd - 5th grade students who wish to learn to play an orchestra instrument.
  • 2nd Year and Intermediate String Classes* are offered one time a week during ther school day to those who have one year or more of previous string experience.
  • Private Lessons in flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, violin, viola and piano are also available on a separate contract between parent and teacher with a fee included.

*These classes take place during the school day.  Students are taken out of their regular class to be able to participate.
