Enrichment Programs
Gymnastics, Dance, and Cheerleading
Gymnastics,
as presented at Desert Christian Schools (Kindergarten through
Twelfth Grades) is designed to emphasize the fundamental gymnastic
skills and routines developed by the United States Gymnastics
Federation and currently used in Junior Olympic Competition. The
skills and gymnastics "know-how" are all part of our
skills testing program. There are seven skill levels: Novice,
Novice 1, Novice 2, Novice 3, with three advanced levels: Bronze,
Silver and Gold.
DCS also has a general Gymnastics
Show Team which performs in shows throughout the year at places
such as Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland, and Magic Mountain.
Dance Program at Desert
Christian Schools is offered with the philosophy that we want
children to be able to feel and express their ideas through movement.
We want them to be creative.
The main emphasis of the Dance
Program is to develop traditional ballet, tap, and jazz dance
skills. We will use a variety of methods, including exposure to
folk dance and square dance activities, to enhance the students'
movement vocabulary, and foster an appreciation for multi-cultural
dance from around the world.
Cheerleading is offered
as a part of the DCS Gymnastics Program as an introductory class
for elementary students concentrating on basic cheerleading skills.
The class covers basic stunts, tumbling and cheers. Students use
these skills to cheer on their peers at the jog-a-thon and field
days.
After School Sports activities
are available for the 3rd - 5th graders who desire to participate
in team sports while developing indvidual skills. Sports
offered may include waterbottle bat ball, basketball, volleyball
and track.
