Why run cross-country for Desert Christian? Simply put, Desert Christian's boys' cross-country team's history is unlike any other team in the Antelope Valley. This includes nine top ten finishes in the state in the past nine years, three state podium appearances, two CIFSS championships (1994 and 2016) and the 2016 Divison V California State Championship.
The average time posted by our top five boys at the 5k State Finals course was a 16:14! How was this even possible? Two reasons come to mind right away. First, Desert Christian has great students who are both talented athletically and who are willing to work hard. They log countless miles on their own during summer dead periods and later on with coaching staff, running on the Pacific Crest Trail and in other scenic and mountainous locations simply because they want to be the best they can be. Their desire to achieve propels them to put in the work that other teams are not willing to attempt. Second, Desert Christian has a great coaching staff. The fact that Coach Andy Visokey knows how to train champions is undeniable, given his record. All of our coaches are firmly committed to providing top-of-the-line distance training, while running a faith-based program that keeps students' eyes on what is truly important. Student athletes are encouraged to glorify God through all they do, and apply biblical truths and lessons learned from training to becoming champions in every aspect of their lives.
