Baseball

“Baseball touches our hearts. . . .  This is a story of people and of human drama—of a sport that is so much like life, in its tragic as well as glorious forms, that we get swept into its emotional drama whether we’re fans or not.  This is a game in which defense has the ball.  This is a game that has no clock.  This is a game that’s incredibly regulated, and yet every field is different.  This is a game in which the greatest heroes fail 7 times out of 10—much like life.  This is a game in which we can play forever—it reminds us of the rhythms of our own life.  This is a game that begins in spring and ends in the fall, as our life does.”    -          Ken Burns

A perfect mixture of team cooperation and individual competition, baseball is also combines precise physical athleticism and chess-like strategy.  Much more than simply an escape from life’s problems, the sport helps develop the mental toughness, perseverance, and character needed to face life’s problems off the field.  But perhaps the highest virtue of a baseball player is consistency—humble commitment for the long haul and a joyful work ethic that stays on an even keel through good times and bad, taking the game (and life) as it comes: one day at a time, one inning at a time, one pitch at a time.  The Bible calls this faithfulness.

The history of Knights baseball has been remarkably consistent in terms of results (a streak of 14 consecutive playoff appearances since 2006 with a combined record of: 269-79-1 and 12 league titles). However, wins and losses are not how God measures success, and if we measure it that way, we are missing the point.  The main goal of our program is to develop young athletes who are not just faithful to play hard, but faithful to worship and serve God first (and God ONLY) in their hearts and lives.

Our team includes players from both DCHS and DCHEP (Desert Christian Home Education Program) with a wide variety of experience and skill levels.  There are no formal tryouts (anyone who is willing to put in the work at practice will make the team), and we will welcome all boys who would like to play.  We’d love to have you join the team!
